    At the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, thousands of anti-war protesters gathered to show there support for the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam. The mayor deployed over a thousand police and called in over ten thousand federal and state officers. Things spiraled out of control and the police severely beat and attacked the demonstrators with tear gas.
