    Mughal Emperor Akbar supported freedom of religion. He even established a new religion called Din-i-llahi, incorporating all the goodness of other religions. His idea was to settle cultural, social and political differences, through this religion.

    During his reign (1556 - 1605), Akbar patronised several Hindu scholars, poets and artists in his court, which in itself was a sign of his religious tolerance and magnanimity.
