    When the Roman Republic first began in 509 B. C., power was in the hands of the wealthy landowners - the Patricians. I think that this forced the patricians to give the plebeians the rights they demanded because everyone needed the plebeians in the army and navy so it benefits the patricians.

    Explanation:

    Patricians wanted to prevent plebeians from holding important positions in Roman society and government because if the plebeians go too much power the patricians could be overthrown.
