After the bombing of Pearl Harbour, the American government was afraid that the Japanese might have spies in the continental US. To combat this, Japanese-Americans where put into internment camps to prevent the collection of information.

They were afraid some american citizens may try to hurt them, they were also afraid some of them may be spies.
