    Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire, which would now be situated in modern day Cambodia. It is a region of the country but served as the seat of the Khmer Empire. Angkor was a mega city and supported 0.1 percent of the population during 1010-1220. The main complex is Angkor Wat in the city and is Cambodia's most visited tourist site and is also featured on their flag.
