    False. The convention serves two purposes. 1. the candidate is not formally the party's candidate until they are voted on at the convention and technically someone else can be voted in at the convention. 2. It is a time to get everyone excited as the road into the primary and then the general election begins. There are lots of rousing speeches and other entertainment to get everyone energized. It is also a fundraising opportunity for the party.
