    Mohandas Gandhi popularly known as "Mahatma" or "Bapu" in Indian subcontinent was a prominent leaders of India who was born in 1869.

    When the British imposed tax and made it compulsory for every Indian to buy salt, a basic dietary ingredient in Indian cuisines, Gandhi started a "Civil Disobedience" or as he called it "Satyagraha" by symbolically violating the laws of British Raj and put pressure on the government to repeal the taxation as well as providing with other facilities. This started in March 1930.
