There are some benefits and challenges for Puerto Rick as being part of the Commonwealth of the United States.

For example, the adoption of the US dollar as the official currency. This makes Puerto Rico's economy more stable and competitive. Another benefit is the American citizenship given to all Puerto Ricans. There are also welfare benefits. On the other hand there are some challenges, mainly in the economic and political field. There have been ideas of annexing Puerto Rico as another state in the United States. Many groups reject this plan since it would cause lots of damage like paying federal income taxes.

No doubt that as part of the Commonwealth, the benefits are limited. They get a limited federal funding and they cannot vote in U. S. federal elections.
