Carlos Manuel de Céspededs was a rich man in Cuba that gathered the Cuban people to declare independence from the Spanish Crown in October 1868. Cuban people were angry and tired of the Spanish rule due to ineffective and corruption actions. People also protested against heavy taxation, their poor living conditions, and the abolition of slavery on the island. This events started the "Ten Year's War."

There were three main causes for the Cuban independence movement and they were
