The first goal of many of the first settlers to Jamestown was to find gold, as the Spaniards did in their colonies.

    Explanation:

Jamestown was founded on May 14, 1607 by the Virginia Company on behalf of King James I, after whom the place is also named. It was the first successful permanent English settlement in America, and was established to serve as a base for English gold seekers but, after a number of difficult years due to hunger, diseases and a conflictful relationship with the Indians, the colony improved from 1612 onwards. That year, colonists started to plant tobacco instead of looking for precious metals, and the colony became an agricultural center in North America.
