    On October 19, 1781, Charles Cornwallis, the General of the British Army surrendered its troops at Yorktown, Virginia. With the surrender of General Cornwallis, the American Revolution ended. General Charles O'Hara, the second-in-command of Cornwallis, took the spade of General Cornwallis to give it to the U. S. Army at the surrender ceremony.
