As Rome's power grew in the Mediterranean region, how do you think it was affected by Hellenistic civilization?

    In terms of art it adapted much existing Greek art. I say adapted instead of adopted because they did change Greek styles into something distinctly Roman. Hellenism definately had a big effect because it was in vogue at that time, but the Romans also used older Greek styles from the archaic and classical periods.

    Rome became embroiled politically and militarily in the affairs of the Hellenistic states as well. Initially they were asked to intercede in Greek affairs, and after fighting a couple of wars on behalf of Greek cities they finally decided to just annex the whole region. Some Hellenistic powers, like Pergamon, decided to peacefully and legally transfer power to Rome.
