The invention that led to the increased concentration of slavery in the South was the Cotton Gin. They would be persecuted without indictment, they had their mobility restrained, they could not go where they wanted without their's masters agreement. After the Civil War, slave codes still existed, ex-slaves could not rent or lease land outside of a town, they could not vote and even were prohibited from using the same places or doors from others.

Madison Washington also led one of the most successful slave revolts in the US. He was inside a boat being transported for the slave in New Orleans, he managed to gain the deck of the boat and him with other 18 other slaves rebelled, they killed one of the slave traders. The slaves took over the boat and navigated towards Nassau.

What was a Southern argument in favor of slavery?

The Southern had many arguments in favor of slavery, the first one was economy, they defended that if slavery was put to an end the US economy would be heavily impacted. Slave force was needed for the Southern economy, especially on plantations. The cotton economy would collapse, tobacco crop would dry in the fields and rice would cease being profitable.

Another Southern argument was that if slavery ended it would cause a major rise of unemployment and violence.
