What is the primary goal of political parties?

    Different parties represent different elements on the political spectrum - there are progressive parties (who typically support a less directly capitalistic style or a directly socialist society and forward thinking policy) and conservative parties (who are generally in favour of a more capitalistic style of government and traditional policy decisions. You could say Progressive = change, Conservative = Stasis/non-change.
