Just a few months after his reelection and his second inauguration, and a few days after the end of the Civil War, president Abraham Lincoln was assasinated. John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor and a fanatic who supported slavery and the Confederacy, shot him mortally in the evening of April 14, 1865, at Ford's Theater in Washington D. C. This magnicide occurred just five days after the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee, commander-in-chief of the Confederate armies.

Lincoln's death happened only six days after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his massive army at Appomattox which ended the American Civil War
