The black panther party's original purpose was to patrol African American neighborhoods to protect the citizens against police brutality. They followed Malcolm X's belief of international working class unity across the spectrum of color and gender. They also embraced the theory of dialect materialism. This is the idea that political and historical events result from the conflict of social forces caused by materialism.
