The December Uprising was a revolt that took place in Russia on December 14th, 1825. The reason behind this event was the assumption to the throne of Nicolas I, after his elder brother Constantine, declined the crown.

The motives behind this military revolt were liberal ideas which the military was encouraged with while Alexander I was in power. The protestors wanted to adopt similar practices which were already seen in Western Europe and also learned about the events of the American Revolution.

The revolt was ended by Nicolas I. However, it would represent a key event in the process of removal of the Russian crown.
