In the early 1700's La Florida was sought as sanctuary by the escaped bitish slaves coming from the British colony of Georgia. By the end of th 1700's La Florida was traded by Spaniards to England in exchange of Havana, Cuba. The majority of the spanish population left to Cuba, taking most of the indians with them. The British divided Florida in East and West and gave land grants to officers who had fought the French and Indian War.
