Why did slaveholders support settlement of freed slaves in Africa?

    The correct answer is the slaveholders supported the settlement of freed slaves in Africa because they did not want the integration of African Americans in society. Other people considered that former slaves now freed could take jobs that before only belonged to white people.

    Black people started to look for new opportunities to better their lives. Many African American that lived in the South made the decision to move up to the Northern states that had better opportunities. But the reaction of the white people was not a good one. The did not welcome the idea of sharing normal life with former slaves, of being in the same places. Some white people considered that America was not a place for former slaves. That is why they supported the idea of the settlement of freed slaves in Africa.
