Why did the Jews hate the publicans?

The publicans were descendants of the Samaritans, with whom the Jews had a long-standing feud.

The Jews despised the Roman government and anyone who worked for them, especially their own countrymen.

The publicans got rich by cheating the Jews and, as a result, lived in luxury while the rest of the Jews were in poverty.
