    On August 23, 1939 enemies Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact, the two countries agreed to take no military action against each other for the next 10 years. Although Hitler didn't stay true to his word and attacked Russia on Sunday June 22, 1941 with a military operation known as Operation Barbarossa.
