    Known as pure democracy, direct democracy is when the citizens directly decide on issues in their country. The citizens vote directly on different issues, not through representatives. Athens, Greece was the first city-state that used direct democracy as its government system. Decisions were made by assemblies comprised by man only. Many years after the Athenians, other countries adopted the system of direct democracy as well as some colonies of the Americas. Today, the system int the US is an indirect democracy, where people vote for candidates to become their representatives in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
