    The term Island Hopping was used to describe the attack tactit that the american army had to do in order to gain stratetic islands in order to get close enough to mainland Japan and to get them into bombing range, they only attacked strategic islands instead of attacking all and trying to defeat them in all of the conquered territories, they instead aimed to make them surrender by attacking them in main-land.
