During the 19th century the House of Commons moved away from the monarchy and became "independent", since it became in itself a check on monarchical power.

The correct answer is A) Independent.

During the 19th century the House of Commons moved away from the monarchy and became independent.

What had started over 600 years ago as a way to curtail the power of the ruling monarch the House of Commons eventually became completely independent of the Monarch.

The house of Commons became more powerful than the monarch and could make new laws and legislation without any interference of the ruling king of Queen.

The house of Lords, on the other hand, held considerable power before this. Since Manga Carta, 600 years ago, the Lords has tried to maintain a far greater control of the governemnt.

As powerful nobility which were able to supply soldiers and even lend money to the monarch, they rightfully believed that they must have say in the running the affairs of the country.

However the house of commons, the elected body of the parliament took some time to become as powerful.

Today, the House of Commons supersedes both the Monarch and the house of Lords.
