The five regions of the United States include the Northeast, West, Midwest, Southwest and Southeast.

The regions are compared against each other to identify each's relative location. An example would be how the Midwest is relatively located between West and Northwest.

The states in a region can share a border with a state in another region. When they are located contiguous to each other, the states can share some features with similar kind of land and peoples sharing culture and history.
