After the 1964 election, President Johnson "had public support to continue his

social programs" since many of these programs had started with Kennedy, but had been passed to Johnson after Kennedy's assassination.

The correct answer is he had public support to continue his social programs

When Johnson became the president, the public was still all about Kennedy and his legacy and supported anything that was related to Kennedy. Johnson used this to pass laws that Kennedy wanted to pass but didn't have congressional support. This is why civil rights were passed during Johnson instead of Kennedy who also supported them.
