    Answer: The ASCAP's income from radio increased 500% from 1934 through 1937 because of the advertising during programs. Most households had radios and everyone listened to the news, orchestras, and even radio variety shows. The radio broadcasts even had soap operas, and singing commercials. This was during the depression when so many people could no go to the movies or had any extra money for things. The average family is thought to of listened to the radio for more than 5 hours a day.
