The correct answer to this open question is the following.

It is true that the Enlightenment would not have been possible without the scientific revolution. The Enlightenment went hand in hand with the new inventions of the scientific revolution. The scientific revolution was a period when science and knowledge overrode the obscure years of religious dogma in the Middle years of Europe. The same happened with great philosophers and thinkers of that time such as Montesquieu, Hobbes, Locke, and Jean-Jaques Rosseau, who established new concepts on social compromise, liberty, government, and people participation.

In the scientific side of the Enlightenment, a good example is the work of Galileo Galilei and his proposals about Earth.

Italian astronomer Galileo (1564-1642) enhanced the use of the telescope, observed the sky and stated that the Sun did not orbit around the Earth as the Catholic Church said. The church accused him of heresy on April 12, 1633.
