    The brain activity of the neglected and abused was similar to nonviolent control participants.

    Explanation:

    The research showed that those who were neglected and abused did not think much or the brain was not involved in much activity when they were controlled or the prefrontal cortex was sustained from activity in some manner.

    However, if there were no control conditions, the brain activity of the neglected and abused could not be controlled and they though violently. The research showed how neglect and abuse could affect the brain and its thinking process under controlled and uncontrolled conditions.
