What issue angered southern states and contributed to the nullification crisis in the early 1830s?

    The tariffs of 1828 and 1832 angered the southern states. The southern states declared that these tariffs were unconstitutional and could not be applied within the borders of the sovereign southern states. This tariff was put into place under Andrew Jackson's presidential term.
