In the year 1653, Oliver Cromwell is known as the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Ireland, and Scotland. This period in time was known in history as the Protectorate. He was responsible in maintaining peace and order and made England a unifying land for all. In the year 1658, Oliver Cromwell died.

His son Richard Cromwell, took his place as the Lord Protector. Richard Cromwell’s rule was short lived, only up to seven months because he could not carry over his father’s policies into his duties. Due to some internal conflicts, Richard Cromwell was thrown out of position and parliament restored the monarchy in the year 1660.
