The Confederate flag has always been a divisive subject in American History. Amongst some white people it represents southern pride, but to black people it represents racism. Even though the number of people that see it as racist has softened in the last couple of years, it's still around 40% of people that think is racist. This division of thought is even more prominent in the south, where around 65% of black people think negatively of the flag. We have to consider as well that around the time of the Charlottesville incident in Virginia where 9 black americans were gunned down by a white supremacist, the numbers jumped up from 31% to 41% of negative reaction to the flag in the region.
