Wealthy Egyptians, as well as Pharaohs and Queens, preserved their body after death so that the soul could enter their body in an afterlife. During mummification, all the internal organs were removed and replaced with salts, to prevent the body from becoming decay. According to the Egyptians, death was an interruption which can be continued afterlife.
