John Adams became president in 1797 and one of his first goals when he got into office was to keep the military strong. The military is just the armed forces of a particular state or country. As president, he also avoided war with France but found a peaceful way although others disagreed. This is why he is remembered for always doing what was right and not what was popular. Adams also defended British soldiers after the Boston Massacre.

These are just a few things out of many that he did.
