How are cabinet members placed in office?

    They are selected by the president but have to be voted on by congress.

    They are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U. S. Senate by a majority vote. Each official receives the title Secretary, except the Attorney General who leads the Department of Justice. The members serve at the pleasure of the President and may be dismissed at any time. The Cabinet Secretaries resign when a new President takes office, traditionally.
