    The correct answer is white indentured servants. Basically, if people from Europe wanted to go to the Americas they could have the plantation owners pay for their journey and then they would pay it back by being their indentured servants for a while until the debt is paid back. This was like a fancy way of being a slave, but they eventually switched to African-Americans.
