In 1765, Britain's Parliament passed the Stamp Act. This law required the colonists to purchase a stamp for all printed materials.

A The Sons of Liberty formed to protect the officials responsible for enforcing the act.

B While many did not agree with the new act, the colonists decided it was best to follow the new law.

C Colonists in Charles Town protested until officials agreed not to enforce the act.

D South Carolina representatives unsuccessfully encouraged other colonies to boycott the act.
