    Explanation:

    When a stormwater pipe located under a coal ash pond - without bottom insulation - exploded at a plant in Eden, North Carolina, which caused tens of thousands of tons of material to be dumped into the Dan River. The Duke Energy, owner of the Dan River Steam Station, which suspended its operations in 2012, estimates that between 50,000 and 82,000 tons of these ashes and up to 27 million gallons of water were released from the storage tank of almost 11 hectares. Coal ash is a toxic residual by-product from the burning of coal that is usually stored with water in large ponds.
