    The correct answer is Puritans.

John Winthrop lead Puritans to the Massachusetts Bay Colony during the early part of the 17th century in order to establish a religious society in the New World. The goal of the Puritans was to "purify" the Church of England and spread its message to individuals in the New World. This "city upon a hill" was designed to be a religious and moral society in which all other colonies could base their structure on.
