    A. the son of John Adams, John Quincy Adams

    Explanation:

The sixth President of the USA was John Quincy Adams, son of the former second President, John Adams.

John Quincy Adams ran against Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, and William H. Crawford during the 1824 election. Incidentally, none of the candidates won the majority vote by the Electoral College, so the House of Representatives had to hold a contingent election (which is essentially where the House of Reps decides on a candidate and then the Senate approves or disapproves of that choice). Adams won this contingent election.
