The main reason that many within the Byzantine Empire converted from Christianity to Islam was Coercion. Islam had grown as a religion and had one of the advanced militaries in the world. Islamic Arabs invaded the Byzantine Empire overthrowing the existing religious deities and establishing their own. The people of Byzantine Empire chose to defect from Christianity and join Islam so they could adopt Arabic and assimilate into the Arabic culture.
