Which was not a reason for the decline of the Heian dynasty in Japan? The equal-field system gradually fell into disuse in Japan. Elite clans amassed most of Japan's lands into vast estates. A shogun was installed as military governor over the emperor. The emperor lost legitimacy as a result of a failed invasion of Korea.
