The War of 1812 was the result of a few factors in the relationship between Great Britain and the newly formed United States. Great Britain sought to restrict trade between the United States and France (who Great Britain was at war with) which the U. S. said was a violation of international law and an infringement on its sovereignty and free trade. Also Throughout this time the British were practicing a policy of "impressment" which was the forced recruitment of U. S. seamen into the Royal Navy when their ships were commandeered. Finally The British were also militarily supporting American Indians who were resisting American Expansion in the Northwest frontier. For this reasons the U. S. decided to go to war with Great Britain.
