The Articles of Confederation was the first government in the United States. It failed to be strong enough to establish a strong, federal government, so it was scrapped and replaced by the Constitution we still use today.

The Articles of Confederation gave the states more power than the national government had, meaning that it could not enforce and orders give to complete any tasks. This eventually led to Shay's Rebellion, which forces the states to work together to create a different government altogether. That is how we got the constitution and how the Articles of Confederation played its part as the framework of our government.
