Political powerful cyclists created roads in the United States and Europe and many went on to become leaders in the automobile industry. They successfully lobbied for the improvement of the road networks in the U. S and Europe steering the future of transportation away from rails to roads, therefore, the bicycles provided a foundation for the automobiles. The automotive industry grew in the 19th Century from the evolution of the safety bicycles to automobiles. Cyclists were the vehicle operators in long journeys, town to town and paved roads from being grubbed up.
