    Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian, and his strong belief about his religious preference paved the way for him to lead a non-violent resistance during the Civil Rights movement. He was the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 and paved the way for combating segregation in Albany, Georgia.
