Patrick Henry's text of the "Virginian Resolves" was read by the House of Burgesses in 1765. In the third resolution, the body allowed for taxation was resolved to apply just for the people by the people themselves or by persons chosen by the same people.

That was important, because on Henry's view, only the people knew what kind of taxes the colony could bear or the best method to collect taxes.

The text includes five resolutions and two additional resolutions.
