Maternalist Reforms in the United States in 19th and early 20th the Supreme Court decision by Muller V. Oregon. The policy created laws which required the state to provide assistance for mothers with young children who can't receive financial assistance from any male member of the family. These reforms rose from the belief that the government have an obligation in protecting and improving the living standards for women and their children.

The assistance came in form of financial reimbursements as well as limits on the maximum working hours for women.
