Most substantially, the Mongol Peace enabled much more reliable trade between East and West. Prior to this period, exchange occurred, but the complex political makeup of the Near East and Central Asia resulted in frequent raids on caravans and other blockages to trade. Under Mongol rule, the region was unified therefore allowing easy trade. For example, Mongols began to issue what we would call today a passport for those entering and exiting their region for trade.
