The Roman Catholic Church was the primary patron second only to royalty for the arts in the middle ages. Some of the world’s greatest composers Bach, Mozart etc, created musical masterpieces for the church. The Church also promoted the construction of great pipe organs. Not to mention the Gregorian chants named after Pope Gregory the Great.
